IEDs in IRAQ

Pathfinder Advanced Intrusion Detection

The Problem

U.S. and NATO military forces were plagued by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Enemy forces were able to target the known routes used by U.S. and NATO forces.

The Solution

U.S. and NATO forces needed a solution to pinpoint threats 24/7, near and far, along known routes they traveled. An expendable, wireless, and covert solution was critical to ensure the simple, quick emplacement of the sensors unseen by the enemy. Once buried, the sensors were invisible.  Thousands of first generation Pathfinder sensors were installed along known routes throughout the areas of operation. Pathfinder leveraged high altitude aerostats to expand the communication range of sensors to dozens of miles while at the same time automatically slewing high powered on-board cameras that pinpointed enemy IED activities.

The Result

Pathfinder was able to immediately notify U.S. and NATO forces of enemy combatants implanting IEDs. Coalition forces were able to neutralize the enemy before the IEDs could harm friendly forces.

THE PATHFINDER ADVANTAGE

Automated Targeting

Pathfinder can integrate with ground and air-based camera systems put eyes on target as anautomated “slew to cue” or “fly to cue” capability.

Undetectable

With only the antenna exposed, Pathfinder is undetectable to the human eye and its short burst radio signal is hidden in the noise.

User-Friendly

Simplified wireless architecture allows for easy installation.
