Every year, the River City Section of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) hosts a Vicksburg Girl Scout Day. The purpose of the day is to introduce girls to different areas of STEM and show them women in STEM careers and what they do on a day-to-day basis.
ARA’s SERVICE Program provided support for this year’s event. Participants were able to build electromagnets using different sized nails, bolts, and screws with different numbers of coils. The Girl Scouts were able to observe how material, size, and number of coils affected the strength of the electromagnet by picking up paperclips. In the words of one of the Girl Scouts, “Science is so cool!”
ARA’s STEM community fund has been designed with ARA’s core value of service in mind. Under this program, ARA aims to inspire and motivate students to pursue STEM education.
