Every year, the Mississippi River City Section of SWE hosts a STEM Workshop Day for the local Girl Scouts in Vicksburg, MS. This year, with the help of ARA and the SERVICE Program, there were four stations that all covered very different aspects of STEM.
ARA volunteers were able to demonstrate how a centrifuge works, talk about invasive plants and create seed pods, make monsters to learn about different organs, and build cars with a certain budget using Monopoly money and various materials.
Throughout the event, girls of all ages showed excitement about science and engineering and all the different things that can include – and celebrated STEM by finishing off the event with dirt pudding snacks.
The ARA SERVICE program was developed with ARA’s core value of service in mind. The program empowers employee-owners to serve their communities by supporting STEM education and outreach initiatives and aims to inspire students to pursue STEM education, including through grants from the ARA STEM Community Fund.
