ARA Highlights Innovations in Infrastructure at TRB

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) recently highlighted its expertise in transportation and infrastructure at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

TRB programming spans all modes of transportation, offering sessions and workshops bringing together transportation professionals and innovators. The event, which took place Jan. 5-9, featured numerous committee meetings providing a platform for collaboration across more than 170 committees covering nearly every transportation topic.

This year marked the 104th annual meeting, giving ARA an opportunity to showcase its extensive experience in the transportation and infrastructure industry to policymakers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives from government, industry, and academia.

For over 30 years, ARA has supported the development and maintenance of critical infrastructure, serving military, government, and private customers worldwide. ARA offers a full range of services across the infrastructure lifecycle – from planning to preservation – helping communities improve transportation systems while managing resources.

This year, ARA highlighted some of its innovative approaches to pavement testing and evaluation, as well as advanced techniques for designing and maintaining resilient pavements capable of withstanding demanding conditions. ARA presentations included:

  • Pavement Structural Testing and Evaluation: Falling Weight Deflectometer, Traffic Speed Deflection Devices, Ground Penetrating Rada, Structural Modeling, and More
  • A Deep Learning Model to Estimate Rigid Pavement Stresses for Top-Down Cracking Airfield Pavement Design
  • Research in Hazardous Materials Transportation: Mitigation Strategies for High Severity Derailments with Hazardous Materials
  • Current Issues in Aviation: Prediction Models for Airport Pavement Serviceability Level Index
  • Advancements in Ballast Condition Assessment: Impact of Vehicles, Subgrade, and Cold Weather
  • Freight Data Insights: Infrastructure Mapping to Flow Analysis Development of Transload Facilities Database in the U.S
  • Airfield Asphalt Pavements: Rutting Study and Tests, Use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement, Characterization of Cracking Potential, and Mechanism Analysis
  • Latest Advancements in Accelerated Bridge Construction
  • Concrete Pavement Design, Modeling, and Performance: Performance Prediction Models for Flexible and Rigid Pavements – State-of-the-Practice Review for Implementation
