Army Sustainment Challenges and New Approaches to Addressing Them
The presentation will begin by offering participants a richer understanding of the contemporary operating environment while describing why Congressional and Army leaders are focusing more intently on “contested logistics”. The briefer will provide a review of the sustainment-related challenges commensurate with this environment, to include a deeper look at supply chain-specific ones. The presentation will then offer several insights in terms of how the Army is meeting these challenges through industrial base and supply chain improvements and novel approaches to freight management. We will conclude with a quick review of how the Army develops its future warfighting capabilities, to include sustainment ones and others.
After attending, participants will have a better appreciation for:

Speaker – COL(R) Marchant Callis
March Callis joined the ARA team on the heels of his recent retirement from the US Army after serving as a multifunctional logistician for 27 years. His military assignments included a variety of retail and wholesale level logistics and planning positions around the globe.
A combat veteran with several deployments under his belt, he led soldiers and civilians at the company (80 personnel), battalion (500 personnel), and brigade (1,800 personnel) levels. His last command tour was with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), where he led and directed the Department of Defense’s largest strategic distribution center supporting all military branches, numerous federal agencies, and over 90 partnered nations with an $11B inventory and a $130M annual operating budget.
In his last assignment, March served as the Director of the Sustainment Capabilities Development and Integration Directorate within Army Futures Command. It was in this position that he led the Army’s sustainment modernization efforts, to include developing operating concepts while executing gap analysis, experimentation, and equipment modernization in support of the future Army.
At ARA, March is leading the company’s contested logistics business development initiatives while more broadly advising on emerging Army modernization opportunities across all areas of warfighting.
