An Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) contract supports the Security Equipment Integration Working Group (SEIWG), which recently received a government-wide award for its efforts to improve interoperability of Department of Defense (DoD) force protection systems.
The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) recently awarded the working group – a subgroup of the DoD’s Physical Security Enterprise & Analysis Group (PSEAG) – the 2018 Best of NIEM award for Cross-Boundary Collaboration for their Physical Security Equipment Information Exchange.
The SEIWG information exchange package contains a NIEM conformant standard to enable interoperability between security equipment, sensors, and control systems, improving force protection systems while saving time and money, and reducing potential errors related to disparate systems.
This product seeks to bring the joint physical security community in line with DoDI 8320.07, dated 3 August 2015, which states “…the use of NIEM-based exchanges must be considered for all new Extensible Markup Language (XML) information exchanges created and for all XML information exchanges being modernized as part of the normal lifecycle management for these information exchanges.”
It’s the first-of-its-kind, publicly-releasable information exchange package for security equipment, and is intended to influence physical security equipment architecture, technical design, and system integration, according to NIEM. Because it’s publicly releasable, the standard can also be implemented by industry partners who build, design, develop, and deploy physical security equipment for force protection systems and other DoD applications.
